Shri Ananda M. Pandiri of southern Connecticut State University who has compiled this bibliography has done a commendable job. His devotion and commitment to Gandhiji's ideals are reflected in the tremendous work he has accomplished.

Highly recommended for researchers, students, historians and teachers, the book is a compilation of all Gandhian material published in English including biographies of Gandhi, works by Gandhi, compilations of Gandhi's writings, the collected works of Gandhi, prefaces and forewords written by Gandhi to several books, and books read by Gandhi. This volume also contains a comprehensive list of source material for Gandhian literature, library catalogs that were consulted, Gandhi bibliographies, in books on Gandhi, Trade, national and general bibliographies and indexes and periodical sources consulted. Finally this volume provides three separate indexes: author, title and subject.

One may find bibliographies detailing all relevant material but the unique feature of this volume is the detailed annotation. For nearly every entry the compiler has examined corresponding document thoroughly and all care is taken to ensure that the information is accurate and complete. This enhances the value and usefulness of the bibliography to users.

Prof. Denis G. Dalton writes, "In fact, no other political leader in history has left, recorded in his own hand, such a voluminous statement of thought and experience so intensely personal in character." Earlier, Prof. Dalton mentioned," This huge primary source (Collected Works of Gandhi) exceeds the writings of Lenin, Mao and Hitler combined." He adds, "The scholarship invested in this work is truly remarkable by any standard. Pandiri's research into Gandhian is exhaustive; his organization of mountains of material with commentary must rank as among the most valuable contribution yet made to the task of understanding Gandhi's achievement. Previous bibliographies have impressed the world with the scope of writings by and about Gandhi, but none equals this as a comprehensive yet richly detailed source of information. For this accomplishment, students of Gandhi should remain indebted to its author. This surely could not have been achieved without the sort of dedication that the Mahatma inspired in others when he lived, and now, it seems, continues to give generations after."

The book is a unique contribution in the field of Gandhian Studies. Gandhi and his philosophy have long been an area of study and research across many disciplines and recent years have witnessed an increase in Gandhian thought and philosophy of nonviolence amongst public and academic circles.

So search for 985 biographies of Gandhi, 498 books by Gandhi,56 books on Gandhi,92 collected works of Gandhi and 354 books which Gandhi had read.
